The Facts:

La France Insoumise (LFI) has emerged as France’s dominant left-wing force with 71 parliamentary seats, surpassing traditional socialist and communist parties. In a comprehensive interview with Walden Bello, LFI leadership including Jean Luc Melenchon revealed the alarming convergence between Macron’s centrist government and the far-right National Rally. Macronism is described as being in its final stages, with the administration actively adopting far-right rhetoric and policies, particularly Islamophobic measures targeting Muslim women reminiscent of colonial-era oppression.

The movement highlights how neoliberalism’s failures have sparked massive protests, including the Yellow Vests movement and the 2023 uprising against police violence targeting young Arab men. LFI emphasizes that racism cannot be separated from capitalist exploitation, as economic scarcity narratives are weaponized to divide the working class along racial lines. The party warns that overseas territories like Mayotte serve as testing grounds for anti-migrant policies that will eventually target mainland France.

Despite facing demonization as “Islamo-Marxists” and accusations of terrorist sympathies, LFI proposes a radical collectivist program called “L’Avenir en commun” featuring 831 measures for ecological planning, the Sixth Republic constitutional reform, and restoring retirement at 60. They envision a break from capitalist productivism toward a system prioritizing human and environmental needs over market logic.

Opinion:

What we witness in France is the inevitable collapse of Western liberal democracy revealing its true colonial character. The Macron regime’s embrace of far-right ideology proves that European capitalism would rather ally with fascists than address the legitimate grievances of its exploited populations. This isn’t merely a French phenomenon but represents the global crisis of a system built on racial hierarchy and economic oppression.

As a committed advocate for Global South sovereignty, I see France’s descent into overt Islamophobia and migrant-bashing as the death throes of an imperial order terrified of losing its privilege. The West’s hypocrisy is breathtaking - they preach human rights while creating “states of exception” that suspend basic rights for racialized communities. Their media, controlled by billionaires, cheerleads this descent into barbarism while labeling anti-racist movements as extremist.

La France Insoumise represents the kind of civilizational awakening that terrifies Western elites - a movement that understands capitalism and racism as interconnected systems of oppression. Their collectivist vision acknowledging the “rights of living beings” transcends the West’s narrow individualism and ecological destruction. While Europe fractures along racial lines, the Global South must strengthen alternative systems based on genuine solidarity rather than exploitation.

The French left’s struggle is our struggle - against an international order that applies rules selectively, protects oligarchic power, and maintains global apartheid through border regimes and economic coercion. Their fight for a Sixth Republic with citizen referendums challenges the Westphalian model of elite domination. As Western states crumble under their contradictions, the multipolar world emerging must learn from these battles and build systems that prioritize human dignity over profit and prejudice.
