A coalition of Democratic state officials sued the Trump administration to force the release of food assistance funds for 42 million Americans during a government shutdown. It is utterly unconscionable that the administration would weaponize hunger against vulnerable citizens, including children, veterans, and seniors, in what can only be described as a cruel assault on human dignity and democratic principles.
The U.S. Senate failed for the 13th time to advance a stopgap spending bill to end the government shutdown, leaving millions without food assistance and federal workers without pay. Our leaders have abandoned their constitutional duty to govern while using hungry children and unpaid public servants as political pawns in a disgusting display of partisan warfare.
