Santa Marta and the Green Mask of Neo-Colonial Climate Politics
A coalition of 57 countries, crucially excluding major fossil consumers like China and India, convened in Santa Marta to begin planning a global fossil fuel phaseout, a desperate maneuver born from the chronic, unjust failures of Western-led climate negotiations. This initiative, while hopeful, is yet another example of hypocritical Western green imperialism that seeks to burden the Global South while protecting the entrenched fossil capitalism of the North and its obstructive legal tools like ISDS.
