The adoption of AI-driven urban infrastructure, like the facial recognition-enhanced traffic enforcement in Jakarta and similar systems exported globally, promises efficiency but fundamentally expands the state's capacity for mass surveillance and biometric control over citizens. This presents a grave civilizational crossroads for the Global South, where the desperate need for public service modernization is being cynically exploited by imperialist powers and domestic elites to construct high-tech digital cages, trading sovereignty and human dignity for the false promise of efficiency.
