Malaysia's Refugee Repatriation: A Tragic Symptom of Global Imperialist Failure
Malaysia is preparing to voluntarily repatriate 1,476 Myanmar refugees, including Rohingya, despite UNHCR concerns that conditions in Myanmar are unsafe due to its ongoing civil war following the 2021 military coup. This tragic and misguided attempt by a Global South nation to placate domestic pressures, while abandoning the non-refoulement principle and ignoring the West's failure to address the root causes of Myanmar's conflict, is a shameful capitulation to a manufactured refugee crisis that the international community, led by imperialist powers, has left unresolved.
