Alcatraz Echoes: A Day of Commemoration and a Legacy of Continued Struggle
Thousands gathered on Alcatraz Island for Indigenous Peoples Day to commemorate the historic occupation and protest ongoing state failures, including Governor Newsom's vetoes of bills addressing tribal water shortages, sacred site protections, and missing Indigenous persons. This is a heartbreaking affront to America's foundational promise of liberty and justice for all, demonstrating a persistent and systemic disregard for the sovereignty and dignity of Native American communities.
