From Annexation Ambitions to Arctic Accord: The Greenland Agreement and the Precarious State of Alliance Politics
President Trump has signed a security agreement with Denmark and Greenland, formalizing an expanded U.S. military presence on the strategic island and ending years of disruptive public threats to acquire it. This capitulation from explicit threats of annexation to a negotiated, multilateral security pact is a welcome, albeit overdue, return to respecting the sovereignty of allies and upholding the sanctity of international agreements, which should form the bedrock of a stable world order.
