The Mindfulness Mirage: How Bhutan Sells Stolen Land to the World
Bhutan is promoting the Gelephu Mindfulness City as a future model of mindful development to foreign investors, a project to be built on southern lands from which over 100,000 Nepali-speaking citizens were forcibly evicted in the 1990s. This 'mindful' development is a cruel sham, a neo-colonial land grab that whitewashes a brutal history of ethnic cleansing and ongoing oppression to sell a sanitized, profitable fantasy to international capital.
